Rap music is dead. Once a genre I cherished, today’s tracks resemble the agonizing yowls of kittens in peril. The lyrics lack inspiration, the vocals mimic malfunctioning robots, and the rhymes wouldn’t impress a kindergarten class.
Yet, the real head-scratcher? The bizarre background noises. Some rappers seem to believe a song isn’t complete without a chorus of “yeahs” and “whats,” or, in some cases, literal barking. Yes, barking.
Why? Do they fancy themselves as canines? I mean, with names like Snoop Doggy Dog and Lil’ Bow Wow, who knows?
Come to think of it, there’s a strange correlation between dogs and dawgs. They’re both adorned with hefty chains (leashes, perhaps?), and since rappers liberally refer to females as bitches, perhaps the barking is part of a mating call.
In my psychology class, I learned that aggressive behavior, such as barking, is motivated by a challenge for social status in a pack. Perhaps these rappers have insecurities and want us to feel sympathy for them. Maybe they’re trying to convey intelligence or talent… or maybe I’m giving them too much credit, and they simply want to resemble jackasses.
Let’s not reward the odd behavior by buying their albums. It’s disconcerting. I feel uneasy knowing that man’s best friend is Lil’ Jon.
Besides, it’s pretty sad when you strive to be a dog. Dogs are stupid. Other animals are way more intelligent. Consider cats… There’s no way you’d ever trick eight cats to pull a sled through the freezing snow.
Dogs are terrible role models. If I ever came into your house and started sniffing at your crotch and slobbering all over you, I’d be cancelled.
Sure, dogs have their redeeming qualities; they’re affectionate, loyal, and undeniably adorable. And if it weren’t for dogs, some people might never go for a walk.
Back to the point, I’m not really sure what’s going on between rappers and canines. All I know is the comparison seems appropriate. Like our furry companions, rappers produce a lot of crap.
Wassup dawg?!
Admittedly I liked rap music back in 2002. Now I can't really stand it at all. This coming from a music student's point of view, rap isn't really "music". It's saying words to a beat. It's the most basic of music and music was like that before the 18th century and before we actually really had instruments. Unoriginal, right?
As for the sounds they make, that might be something new. But barking is probably the norm now! Perhaps they're paying heed to the wonderful canines.
But still, that doesn't make me like rap music any more, even though I like dogs. It's very little in the way of music. 🙁
Thanks I'm glad you do. 😀
I loved the winter olympics. :3
I absolutely know what you mean. I have actually never been a true fan to rap, but a year or two ago I was into some songs. And they got me thinking that rap was pretty dang good. The people were good at rhyming, catchy beats, and meaningful lyrics.
And like you said now-a-days, not so much. It's mostly about like 'shawty and i got durrrtyy'. And quite frankly that does not mean anything to me.
I'm disapointed by today's music, nobody even tries to make a song meaningful.
I'm glad you chose this topic to talk about.
Ahah, I love your blog, especially the last sentence! Uhh, very creative, I guess! (:
Ahh, I DISLIKE rap music. :| It's a good talent & all, but you can't even understand anything the rappers saying.
Totally agree, "yeah" every other second is so useless. -.- Uhh, I would be able to do that!! 😛
Thanks! (: I'm glad I'm back too. xD
Ohhhh, another creative idea. WE DO NEED BUNNY EARS! 🙂 & Uhh, another reason might be because… we use them to poke people? o,o Eh, I'm not creative, LOL.
That was the exact thought I had when I first heard of the iPad. "An Apple-branded pad? Hmm, Mrs. Jobs must`ve made her husband go to target& buy some… That`s probably how he got the idea.." Haha, Still, it is interesting, only if I had a cause for it 🙁 ! I love long showers. It`s relaxing until we realize that we`re late for something. How`s classes? 😀
Haha, its alrighteos. *cough* my facebook lameness is something that can be based on 🙂 I`ve been doing great, and how about you, sir Justin?
endless lol-ing! hi-la-ri-ty! i don't even know what to say. I am so amused. XD :))) hahah.
up until now i never knew the similarity between dogs and rappers. your blog is educational. XD
thank you 🙂

"There's no way you could trick eight cats to pull a sled through the freezing snow." LMBO!!!
Rap music and rappers have definitely gone down hill.
All facts, right there. I couldn't say it with any more truth.
There is nothing impressive about saying "yeah" ever other second, and when they do manage to spit out a sentence, it sounds more like mumbling something a child would say (and ending it with "uh uh"). Sometimes I wonder if they have the hiccups.
G-dawgs are psychotic dogs! I haven`t bothered looking for rap songs for a long time. Me, a freak? Yes! Hmm, Organizing things, only when I remember :). Too bad they can`t be pimps :(.
i love this! i favorite link was probably do they think they're dogs? haha
thanks for the comment on my site. i'm hoping it does calm down but with my birthday on monday and college visits and prom dress fittings i have a feeling it won't. lol
Idk if you were joking or just read my blog with misunderstanding. My mom was not the one who spied on me and I was actually with my boyfriend. o_O?
I think rap music now a days is alright, but I can tell people are most likely becoming unoriginal and less unique.
IMO, I don't think all dogs are stupid. My dog is actually much brighter than my cats because dogs actually listen. My cats are fucking lazy.
Hahaha, I love your blog! It's very funny!
"There's no way you could trick eight cats to pull a sled through the freezing snow." Ahh, i love it!
Keep up the awesome work!
Wow, that was very refreshing to read. Lol. You speak the truth my brotha.
Rap was dead when actual singing stopped and they started auto tuning with their songs. Its sad really, but oh well. I guess we can turn to people like Cyrus and Beiber…
Oh god, I'm scared now.
-hides under your covers-
Thanks for the laugh, big head. 🙂
Hahaha interesting comparison, Justin.
I can't STAND rap, I hate it!
